Discover Mongolia’s wild side in five unforgettable nights — ride with nomads, search for the rare Takhi, walk icy gorges in the Gobi-steppe, and feel the pulse of Terelj’s dramatic rockscapes — all within easy reach of Ulaanbaatar.
Travelers who want a compact, high-value nature experience close to the capital — ideal for photographers, families, short-stay travelers or those adding a nature escape to a Mongolia city visit.
Three complementary protected areas in one trip: Khustai National Park (home of the reintroduced Przewalski’s horse), Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve (compact biodiversity hotspot), and Gorkhi-Terelj National Park (iconic rock formations and nomadic scenery).
Tour Plan
Day 1 — Arrival: Welcome to Ulaanbaatar Arrival and transfer to your hotel. Short city orientation: Sukhbaatar Square, Chinggis Khaan Monument, Gandan Monastery and Zaisan Hill for a sweeping view of the capital.
Evening folklore concert and welcome dinner. Overnight: 4★ hotel (Ulaanbaatar)
Day 2 — Khustai National Park: Meet the Takhi After breakfast we drive to Khustai National Park. Spend the day with guided drives and short walks looking for Takhi (Przewalski’s horses) and other steppe wildlife — argali, red deer and steppe birds. A park ranger or interpreter will explain the conservation story behind the re-introduction. Sunset in the steppe. Overnight: tourist ger camp.
Day 3 — Khustai → Gun-Galuut: Wetlands, lakes & birdlife Drive back toward Ulaanbaatar and continue to Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve (approx. 2–3 hrs from UB). Explore the mosaic of mountains, steppes, rivers and wetlands — ideal for short nature walks, bird watching and easy photography. Learn about local conservation and community-based tourism. Overnight: tourist ger camp
Day 4 — Gun-Galuut → Gorkhi-Terelj: Iconic rockscapes Morning walk in Gun-Galuut, then drive to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Visit Turtle Rock and Aryabal Meditation Temple, enjoy meadow views and (weather permitting) a one-hour horse ride on traditional trails.
Evening camp at the foot of sculpted granite formations. Overnight: tourist ger camp.
Day 5 — Terelj: Hiking, horse riding & nomadic life A relaxed day of short hikes, photo stops and cultural experiences — visit a nomadic family, try milking or dairy tastings (seasonal), and spend time at Aryabal for a panoramic scene as the light shifts.
Return to Ulaanbaatar late afternoon. Farewell dinner in the city. Overnight: 4★ hotel (Ulaanbaatar)
Day 6 — Departure After breakfast check out and transfer to the airport for your onward flight. End of tour.
